Mr. Fontenot’s areas of practice have included construction contract disputes, extensive commercial and business litigation, lender liability, banks and banking law and regulatory issues, foreclosures and other enforcement of collateral and security devices, creditors, rights in bankruptcy proceedings, loan participation agreements, loan and collateral work-outs, buy-sell agreements, options and related matters.

Mr. Fontenot’s commercial and business practice has also included real estate transfers, financings, and work-outs as well as loan and collateral agreements, work-outs relative to large non-real estate acquisitions, private financings and revenue bond financings.

Mr. Fontenot’s experience also includes extensive casualty litigation including premises liability, products liability and railroad accidents.

Management and Administrative Experience

While a partner at Milling, Mr. Fontenot served on the firm’s Management Committee, which is the governing body of the firm and develops, promulgates, and implements policy and manages the practice and development of the firm.

Mr. Fontenot also served as Chairman of the Litigation Department of the firm for many years, with various responsibilities including conflicts of interest and other ethical issues, staffing, litigation strategy and tactics, billing issues and related matters.

Over the years, Mr. Fontenot has served on almost every major committee of the Milling firm and has been chairman of the Recruiting Committee responsible for the recruitment and hiring of lawyers, chairman of the Associates Committee responsible for the training and evaluation of all associate (non-partner) attorneys, and a member of the Participation Committee, which is responsible for the distribution of firm income among partners.

Certification as a Mediator by the American Arbitration Association and the Attorney-Mediator Institute focused specifically on negotiation skills and extensive interpersonal and communication techniques which lead to effective mediation management.
